Babylon's sire line:

Babylon's sire is Siraaba by Sir by Mudir by Marawan .

Marawan was an imported Egyptian stallion. Marawan sired both show and race winners in his day.

His black son Mudir was shown with success at Ascot when the National Show was there. A smooth, well made horse of considerable scope and elegance. His full brother, the bay Maajed, was a successful racehorse and Mudir sired some race winners himself before being exported to Saudi Arabia.

Mudir's dam, Latifah, was a daughter of the all Crabbet/Old English mare Scindy, a big substantial Indian Magic granddaughter, and the very different Babson Egyptian imported stallion, The Shah.

The Shah was a small, refined brown horse, who won a British National Championship in hand, with a compact muscular body very typical of the Babson breeding programme.

Mudir's son Sir was out of another imported horse, the mare Minnesota who came from the USA and was of CMK breeding. [Crabbet, Maynesborough, Kellogg], as the latter two breeding programmes were founded predominantly on Crabbet bloodlines but with a few additions (mostly from the imports to the USA of Homer Davenport) and they in turn underpin the majority of early American Arabian breeding.

Minnesota represented the close breeding of the Crabbet stallions Raffles and Ferseyn, both Skowronek line horses. The Raffles blood has been very successful in endurance in the USA, blending the movement of Rissla with the strong coupled strength of Skowronek in a similar way to the success of Raffles threequarter brother Irex in England - also successful in endurance via Indian King in particular. These CMK Raffles/Ferseyn blends were usually compact, pretty but with a reasonably substantial look.

Merrow, was broken and ridden. Her sire, the black Al Aswad, was bred in the UK from imported Egyptian parents. Kais, Al Aswad's sire, sired a number of race winners, particularly out of Ikbal and her daughters. Ikbal was a granddaughter of Anter, a very important line for scope, movement and performance in Egyptian lines. Anter also sired the German Egyptian sire Gharib and the UK's Saab, a truly spectacularly moving stallion Merrow's dam, Merryn of Pelere, was Crabbet/Old English with multiple lines to Rissla via both Rissalix and Irex - outstanding movement lines. Merrow herself was a little, pretty, brown mare who inherited her colour and much of her type from her Old English grandsire, Rimini.

Babylon's dam line:

Babylon's dam Dish Dasha was the result of crossing the classic 100% Crabbet mare Istashra (a National Show winer in hand who was the dam of Istfahan who was given the magic top score of 20 at the International Show) with the imported stallion Malabar Prince.

Malabar Prince is heavily bred to the Babson and Old Egyptian lines mentioned earlier via The Shah but with a little dash of CMK. Black breeders in the USA used the Babson blood a lot as a source of the black colour mainly via the Babson bred stallion Fa Serr (Fadl/Bint Serra) who combined the dark liver chestnut blood of Fadl's sire Ibn Rabdan with the black/bay mare Bint Serra - bred in Egypt but by a Crabbet bred sire out of a mare bred by Lady Anne Blunt at her Egyptian home at Sheykh Obeyd. Breeders in the USA wanting to breed black Arabians multiple bred to the Fa Serr line as it was one of the few lines to consistently pass on the black colour. The resulting multiple breeding to Fadl/Ibn Rabdan lines produced horses that were compact with deep muscular bodies and very strong, broad backs and coupling as well as being usually pretty and deep jowled . Istashra also produced the lovely show and race winning stallion Istfahan by Aurelian. She was an elegant but tall, substantial grey Indian Magic granddaughter again. The Indian Magic blood usually adds size, scope and athleticism.

Babylon's balance of breeding, is clearly to the Egyptian elements in her pedigree with predominantly EAO Egyptian (taller /scopier) on her sire's side and predominantly Babson/Old Egyptian on her dam's side (more compact).
